Wiring problems, 3 wires to headlight? Help???
Hi,
I have my 82 Yami up and running now thanks to the help I have gotten from all of you! Remember I paid $100 for it!
I'm trying to install a pair of driving lights(for a car) into the grill instead of the single high/low original light.
There was three wires going to the original bulb (blue,green,yellow). Then it looks like someone tried to splice a groung onto one wire?? The light doesn't work anyways....
How would I wire up the driving lights that have only a white and black off each unit? Do they need a ground????
Thanks!

How many watts are the lights??? If they are too many watts, you'll cook the stator/lighting coil!!! I'd stick wit hthe oroginal light!

I have an 84 srv the wire colors are as follows Ground = black almost all 12DC systems use black for the ground , low = yellow , high = green the stock light is an H4 style with a 60/55W rating. I replaced this with 100/80W h4 bulb.
Now for some electronics.
first V=voltage P=power I= current
Power = watts current=amps
P=VxI
The current drawn by the factory lamp on high is 5 amps 60W/12V . The new 100W =8.3amps. Most electrical tolerances are 15% so max factoyr tol. would be 5.75Amps I needed to find 2.5A to return to the system. the brake lights were 2 15W bulbs wired in parallel =30W or 2.5A. I replaced the tail lights with leds in a series parellel circut to draw .5A. So what this means to you is that can change things around but where you take from you must also return it to a point. How much risk are you willing to take on a dark unfimilar trail in the middle of nowhere. That is most likely where a prob will pop up.

TY
All that junk has been drilled in to me for years. Those are just part of the basics I have to use on a daily basis. I hope it helps all that need it.

The lights I'm trying to use are 55w a piece. I was just trying to get one going and it wouldn't work.
I know I don't really want to go over 60W so I was going to wire one light to the low beam and aim it lower and the second to high beam and aim it higher up for longer distance. Therefore only one will be on at a time running no more than 55w.

Good safe call. I'd hate to see you have a light failer on a dark treelined corner. Done that been there on 2 wheels. The pain can still be felt at times

ok,still can't figure this out!
I had three wires coming out of the switch on the bars. The harness goes under the motor and when it comes out at the front I find only two wires. yellow and brown. Since the wiring was all screwed up at the bulb I'm not sure how this should work? Does the bulb have 2 wattages so threfore a high wattage wire and a low wattage wire?

Well yes and no. Only at the switch so you know if you are on hihg or low.
If you still have the origional plug for the lamp (Sleds) then it is as follows. standard H4 setup is looking at the back of the plug
top=green= high left=ground=black right=yellow=low. As far as electricaly speaking it dose not matter if one is on high or the other is the switch just goes from one line to the other. Same voltage or input line for both.

I figured it all out.
I was confusing myself with the fact there was 3 wires at the switch and bulb. Didn't realize power was one wire to the switch and from the bulb one was ground. The other two wires between the switch and bulb (yellow,green) are high/low.
Grounded both black wires on my driving lights, a yellow to one and green to the other and voila!!!!

Find out which wire is main power, and which one is for high beam. The other should be a ground. Then simply hook your main power wire to the black on your new lights, the white is your ground.
