Hey everyone, I've just got a quick question.

I have a '86 Indy 400 with a motor that is shot.

Is there anyone out there that has a motor that would fit? Or possibly just jugs?

I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible, but I can't find anything cheaper than $500 used. Hell, I can get a motor for my motorcycle for about $150. What makes them worth so much?

I have been told that I can fit either a 440 or 500 motor in there no problem.

If no one has a motor...is there anyone who wants to buy it for parts. Hood is custom painted, and suspension is in excellent condition. Ski skins, new carbides & more. I would really like to put a motor in it, but I'm really on a very limited budget.

Do you know what is specifically wrong with the engine? Just old and worn out or maybe there are only a few parts you need to replace. What does it run like?

Specifically, the engine has been bored to the max and (supposedly) will not hold enough compression to pull fuel in.

The reason for it being in the shop is that the oil injection line cracked going to the MAG side. They put a new piston and ring set in and it (again, supposedly) won't work.

I've run out of patience with this motor, and would rather get rid of it than stick more money into it.

As far as the rest of the motor, it's still pretty fresh from the last rebuild. Head has been ported and polished by the previous owner, and that's about all I can tell you.

The motor should just be able to be re-sleeved and should work.

Before this little mis-hap, the thing ran great!

Take the cylinders off and see how much damage there is. You might be able to get away with just having them honed and put new pistons in. Find a local sled mechanic or small engine mechanic who can give them a proper diagnosis if you're not sure. Resleeving them isn't a bad idea and you could get them back to stock. Sounds like the previous owner doctored the motor so you might be better off selling it.

I wish I could hone the cylinders, but they are bored to the max right now. In fact, I was told that I'm about 0.02" overbored than what should be max.

If I don't find anything this weekend, I'm just going to sell the sled for parts.
