Shock Question

I am somewhat of a newbie to sledding. I purchased two sleds 2 years ago. Both are now at 1800 miles. I haven't invested anything as far a what I consider normal maintenance. I had the carbs cleaned, etc.

Speaking to a true sledhead he was surprised that I didn't or haven't had the shock rebuilt. Now, I thought he was talking about the front shocks, but in speaking to the Skidoo dealer they said they don't rebuild them. To replace them they are about 500 (ouch). So, I am assuming that my buddy is talking about the rear shock. Full replacement is 200. I am going to touch base with him again to clarify.

I heard that the shocks should be rebuilt every 1000 miles. Is this somewhat true. At this point, the only real concern I have is changing my skis. I have 01 MXZ 800 and am constantly fighting the "darting" effect. I am thinking of using the "precision" skis.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

30 a shox for the rebuild is the going rate, are your sleds the X package?

push down on the back of the sled, does is come back up? there will be a pogo like feeling to the rear. take out the shoxs and push them in listen for a hissing sounds or leaks around the shox shaft. if you can push them in and the shaft does not rebound they are blown out. you have to be the judge on the rebuild.

ski doo doesnt use precision skis anymore, I would recomend C&A or SLP.
