would it be possible to stud my track if it is still on the sled? or is this insanly difficult? i would like to make a pattern so i want to make sure the studs are some what in order.

Easy to do, just loosen the track tension bolts and let the track hang down enough to drill/put in studs.

When I did mine, I removed the rear snow flap, being careful not to drill into the rear idlers. Work just above them. Some people remove the 2 rear suspension mounting bolts, and raise the rear of the sled up on a hoist, so that the rear of the suspension/track drops down, giving you enough room to work under there. SmallEngineGuy is right, be sure to loosen the track, and also remove the drive belt under the hood.

The best stud pattern to make is to spend the 20 bucks for the pattern and be safe. Guessing a good pattern can do some serious heat exchanger damage and fried up motor.
