# of studs?

as many of u no, i picked up a new sled a few weeks ago.. shes now ready for winter! But, im tryin to figure out how many studs it has....on one line it has 2 studs, and the next line it has 4... I did two different formulas, one way i came up with 96 studs, the other 120.. heres a pic, what do ya think?

144.
I run 120 on my 700, it hooks well so I see no need for more. I run 96 on my 440, could use more but I am happy with the amount of slip it has. My wifes 500 i run 120. she needs the added studs cause she weigh so little and is fairly short.

There really is no magic number on studs. When I bought my 700 it had 168. Way more than it needed but it worked.

120 studs needs 8" carbides.

I wouldn't say it's overstudded or anything.

Studboy website says 120-144 for your sled.
Woodys is the same recommendation, but with 120 for intermediate riding and 144 for aggressive.

Old rule that most manufacturers list is 1 1/2 studs per horsepower, or 1 per hp if doing center section only.

btw- I run 144 center-only on my XC600 and 8" carbides are a good match for me.

Wow then I'm understudded at 108 on my 600 with a 136" track.
My Dad's 800 has 144 studs and good grip. Just for future reference, if you ever put a new track on and stud it, don't stud the outside of the track, only the center. It's not even really done anymore. The whole problem with my Dad's sled began when the track ripped because it was overstudded (it had 196) and studded on the outside. My bro's ZR 600 has 96, the mach 1 has 144, and the 380 has 42. You should be pretty much fine with 144 and 8" carbides, but I do enjoy a bit of slip so I wouldn't stud anymore. The best part of the 380 would be drifting around corners because of the low-stud count!

yeah ik its bad to stud the outside.. they pullout.... and i do kinda enjoy ridin non studded sleds cuz of the loosness around corners, but the disadvantage is the braking, ur back end just slides and u dont really stop.. but like i said, i woulda done 120, but oh well... Ill just have to slow up in corners and get used to riding with studs.. do you have to aproach corners any different withs studs?

more aggressively! with studs you dont have to worry about your back end flying out, even though its fun around 40mph, but no more.

No as long as your carbides are fine. And you wont flip, you'll just go straight into a tree.
