CRAZY!///But I think its time
Well boys, I just got my ass whipped tonight by a 1500 Chevy, it was a planned race, and I couldn't stay with him. I know its an F350, but I want to be that guy that can whip anybody. Anyway, despite my current attitude, which is very distraught from my recent defeat, I want to get a Supercharger. I want to stop beating around the bush, and just go for it. No cams, rockers, headers, valves, heads, crap, but just go for the killer. My reason for posting this idea, is do I need to modify anything else other than what I have already done, to compensate for the supercharger. I am pretty sure they say since everything is built so strong on this motor, that no modding is necessary. Is this true, could i hypothetically just get one, using the current exhaust system I have, and the headers I will be getting?

You need to change everything for a supercharger. The compression ratio has to be lowered, thus different pistons, the fuel system needs to be changed, etc. It's going to cost you more than ANOTHER truck to do it. Not to be rude, but it's an F-350 work truck, not a dragster. Re gear it if you want to race it. It makes me shudder to see how much money you've put into this truck. Now you want to make it into something it was never designed to do. It's your money, do what you want to with it, but when you start screwing with the motor, etc, it's going to stert taking away from what the truck was meant to do.

Have to be careful of the compression. It can't be to high. Will also most likely have to change the tuning on the computer. there are other things you can do before dumping $4000 plus into a supercharger, but i guess it will get you the biggest gains. I'm not speaking from experience, just things i've heard.

You'll need some fuel system upgrades, and possibly a custom tune. Supercharger's don't affect the exhaust at all, so yours will work.
What's the compression ratio on those things ?

I dont wanna take any side between FOrd and CHevy cuz i own both. However my Mustang gets real close calls with them new 5.3 L pickups. I know a guys with a charger in his 5.3 Stepside and it eats my stang up. I am putting a Powerdyne supercharger on it. Bottom line is. YOu have a work truck not a dragster. But if you cant afford both why not have somethin universal. Do it up. good luck

TNT you should look at starting a mucle car now. For the amount just for that supercharger kit you can get a f body mustang or a f body camaro, and with a little work it will be faster then your truck ever could be.

Unless you get married. I also was considering a supercharger at some point in the future, but if anything an exhaust system first since its cheaper and essentially easier.

All good points, to maybe just get a Stang sometime next year to compliment this beast instead of trying to make this thing fast. Good point. Lol yeah, how come when you get married all the fun stops lol. yeah I will just do the bolt on crap for now with this thing. I think a throttle body and ignition system could really help, maybe a chip, to advance the timing, eliminate some of them bogs.

the throttle body probably isn't a restriction. i don't know how much one costs for your truck, but if it's anything like a camaro you could slap a 100 shot of giggle gas on it for that much, and make about 100 more horsepower . you could probably transfer it over to the stang/camaro when you get one.
the 5.3 is a brother of the ls1 and not to be taken lightly. my dad's truck has a 6.0(the big brother of the 5.3), it weighs >8000lbs(fully loaded work truck with a cap full of tools) and is probably as fast or faster than my uncles 305 tbi camaro.
i'm currently considering picking up a holset diesel turbo that can support 700hp on a 350, the price for this prize.......200$, just something else to keep in mind.

Yeah theres a little bit of a stepping stone with them turbo charged diesels. Can just go to town, but I am not a fan of them tho. They stink, and really have no use for one.

So where do you go to school, and what are you studying. I go to RIT for packaging science. My baby is a 1995 Mustang GT.
