gas milage question

as you might know from my other post, im in the market for my first truck, going to look at a 6 cylinder 2wd tomorrow night, sounds like a great deal, and the insurance is the cheapest out of any full sized truck (maybe even less than an s10) but i was wondering would the 6 cylinder be better or worse on gas? cause you could argue either way, the 6 being 2 less cylinders, so being better on gas, but it would also have to work harder, maybe making it worse on gas... anyone have any facts? or know where i could get some? thanks and sorry the the novel... i have ahabbit of telling a story leading up to my first post in a new thread

The 6 will be better on gas

You can google gas mileage for whatever truck your looking at, or msn.com likely has the exact info your looking for.

If it helps, I get about 26mpg with my Ranger. 3.0L V6 w/5sp Standard 2wd and Tow package.
Towing drops it down to about 22mpg, depending on the weight that I am towing. Pulls 2 sled on the trailer with no problem and still can out accelerate most other vehicles in it's class.

If your looking for milage, in the end 6 is better than 8. Towing and not.

Get a Dodge with a Cummins, 6 cylinder, great mileage, will outlast the truck, and you can pull whatever you want with it!

One thing I heard is that the new cayons, whether or not your in the markey for one possibly, are harder on gas than some V8s because the engine must work so hard to keep the truck moving.

Sorry, I have to defend the Canyon's, I just bought one off the showroom about 1,000 miles ago. It has the Z71 package so it has 31" tires from the factory. With the 3.5L five cylinder, auto trans, and 4x4 I am averaging right around 19-20 with a mix of around town and highway driving. It has 3.73 gears so it is pretty good off the line too, better than my 4.3 Sonoma was

The new 2007's have 20 more hp which gives 242 hp and 242 tq out of a 3.7L engine and still averages around 20 mpg... not bad at all!

my trucks geared for towing though, i guess it was a work truck before i got it... because the bumper behind the ball is a bit bent... so somebody's had something a little heavy behind it.
