Stator overloading battery?
Hey guys, on my sled, i have a bunch of LED lights for underglow effect, and they're hard wired into the sled's electrical system, since i didn't have a battery in it. Today, i just put in a small battery so i can run the lights without the engine running, but i was wondering if i kept the battery wired in while the sled's running, will it cause the battery to get "overcharged" from the output of the stator?
If it would, i was going to put a switch in line so that i can "shut off" the battery, and isolate it from the system.
any thoughts?

If you leave the battery plugged in the sled while its running, the stator would try to recharge the battery. I would HIGHLY reccommend putting a switch in between to cut off the battery. Because the stator would constantly be putting juice into it causing it to over charge. And the possibility of explosion and or fire. Which you dont want.

Sleds with electric start have a voltage regulator to keep the battery from becoming overcharged and getting too much juice. on most electric start sleds, the battery is just barely being trickled charged by the engine
my lights and battery are spliced into the guage light's power, so it gets a good amount of juice running through it. It's all 12v, but i just dont want to overheat and overcharge the battery
unless if i could find the type of voltage regulator that electric start sleds have, then i could keep it from overcharging...
i'm more of a basic wiring guy, i don't know the intricasies of it all lol

Bombardier is the only one's that specify a different regulator for an electric start sled.

Not so, the regulator for a sled without E-start usually only has 3 wires, the rectifier needed for a sled that uses a battery usually has 4 wires on it.

i think i got it figured out now...i installed a switch today to turn the battery on and off, so i can choose between engine power and battery power
the only problem i face now, is that i haven't been able to go buy a diode yet.
i need a diode for the engine power, since if i turn on the battery with the engine power on, it will blow the fuse i have on the engine power, since the battery will try and power the headlights, causing problems.
i'm going to pick up a diode tomorow, so the current won't be trying to get up through the headlight power
i'll get pics as soon as i get my camera back

Use a 4 pole switch. This can bypass the entire electrical system when you switch to battery.
