HID conversion on snowmobile

Hey folks,

I just recently replied to a thread from back in 2007 reguarding HID headlights in snowmobiles. I ran a search on the topic and was only able to find one post so I am creating this post as more of an FYI to all those people wondering if you can upgrade your snowmobiles headlights to HID.

(Copied from other post)
Yes I am doing an HID upgrade to my '96 Indy 500. I bought a kit through my employer. Cost me about 120.00 dollars. I elected to go with the 6K kelvin rating so it stays a little more consistant with the color of my old H4 halogens. If you run anything higher than 6K you are asking for trouble form the sheriffs, and or DNR. I just installed it tonight and unbeknownst to me my sled puts out AC voltage due to the fact that I don't have a battery or a bridge rectifier in my sled. Tomorrow I am gonna head to Radioshack and purchasing a bridge rectifier for about 4.00 dollars. The part number is a 276-1185. The rectifier converts AC voltage to DC voltage. After that the HID ballast should fire up. Right now all I am getting is flickering since the voltage output is AC.

I will update this post if and when I know for sure that the bridge rectifier will rememdy my problem. There shouldnt be an issue with power draw and the HID only uses about 35 watts as opposed to 55. I will take some pics as well and post them on here when I get everything going.

What kind of results did you have with that bridge rectifier from Radio Shack? I'm hoping to convert my lighting to HID, but am unsure of the part values for a bridge rectifier...this pre-made one from Radio Shack would be helpful...

Thanks

If you can swap the bulb, look on eBay.. I got an HID conversion kit for my car on there..

They make them in almost ANY bulb style.. Balast, bulb and wiring included. No cutting.. I'm still running it with no problems, and I got the idea from a 4 wheeler board I'm on also.. I have the 8000k's and they're a bit too blue, but still nice.. I'd do 4000k or 6000k's..
