added 55 watt halogen driving lights, but....

I added a set of driving lights to my 88 exciter 570 for added light in deep woods, I taped into my fuel /oil level instrument light, but now rest of lights are real dim. Do i need a bigger voltage reg. maybe? any fix for this?

you might want to tap into something else like the headlight. there might not be enough current going to that. you dont have a battery right? once you rev up the engine, it will put out more of a charge making the lights brighter.

The best way is to get a rectifier and a small dry cell battery!

I have looked into a few wiring diagrams but still kinda lost on a simple setup for my lights. This sled is a 88 exciter L/C w/o electric start. I do have a small 12 v sealed battery to use in this setup but still not sure if a need a rectifier or if i can trickle charge the battery from my existing wiring somehow. Im sure there is a simple solution out there, this forum has never let me down yet!

The stock stator will only produce X-amount of amps. They are sized to develop only enough power for the expected load of the engine & accessories on the sled. This is done to conserve copper (read $$) in the windings. When you add some current sucking accessories like bright lamps, the other features will degrade. A different regulator will not help....it merely works with the power that is sent to it.

but is there a way to put a battery into it and use a power lead like handwarmers or something to trickle charge the battery?

yes there is.. you might be able to tie into a live wire , and hook it to ur positive post, and ground the other side. I put my cheetah engine into my dunebuggy, with electric start, and had a wiring harness out of a different sled, and managed to get it all right, chopping and mending wires for the electric start, everything works, even lights!! but the lights work off of the stator, not the battery. hooking up extra lights may not benefit, because amperage is split up, giving less power to everything else.. hope this helps!~!!

has anyone wired up leds on their sled? Where can you find led spotlights without the prongs sticking out the back and just wires so you can make your own harness to put them on a switch and tap off your light circut for power?
