Thinking about some customization..
Hey - just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some customization on this sled. I'm happy with the graphics/overall color scheme, but I feel like I need to do something else to it. Any ideas? I'm on a fairly limited budget (i.e., I just took out huge amounts in student loans, so I'm trying to keep my "extra" spending down). The only ideas I've had is a new (black?) windshield, new (red?) skis, and/or red vent screens.
I'm also trying to get the boy to buy me studs as an early Christmas gift...the thing definitely needs studs!
Just looking for additional creative input, and any sources for this stuff if you've got a link handy.

if it was my sled, id get the chrome (lower) windshield, a colored belly pan, and some new skis...all like you said.
studs (imo) are a must
i think all of these upgrades will fit in a limited budget.
purepolaris.com has prices and pages for the windshields, and belly pans. skis can be c&a (denniskirk.com) or USI.however, buying direct from USI is waaaay expensive so i went to KJ Motorsports, fast shipping, good prices.
id look into a windshield bag for maps, snacks, ect.

if you go to hiperf.com they'll send you a free catalog. I got a few new ideas just by lookin at the stuff in the catalog. Thier website isn't that user-friendly though.

A chrome windshield? Really? Hmmm...never really considered chrome.
I've already got a red windshield bag. For some reason, the boyfriend thinks his sled "has no storage" so EVERYTHING goes in mine. It was more out of necessity.
Yeah, if I could only get ONE thing, I'm definitely giong with studs. My sled likes to kick out a lot through corners, unless I slow it WAY down...and then I can't keep up with the guys!

A white windshield would look nice there too.
Has it been "clutched" yet?
If you want to get as much as possible of the hp to the snow, a clutch upgrade is in order.

A white windshield would probably look pretty cool. I'm not sure about the chrome on red/white but it may look nice once it's on there. Colored vent screens would also sweeten it up in front a bit. Either red or white. I'm a fan of the white accents rather than the red, but you could go either way. If you were looking to upgrade from the steel skis you could also get colored "ski hooks". Mine are red but I'm thinking of switching everything over to yellow. Which also reminds me, you can get colored snow flap too.

Well, now I'm reconsidering a white windshield. I'm nearly sold on the vent screens - in red. If I do skis - red. Possible snow flap - red. Of course, now that I'm listing all of this red, it sounds like it might be too much. I'm deifnitely keeping the graphics, since I really like those. (If I weren't, it'd probably turn into a Badger-mobile!)
No clutching yet. (I don't even really know what that means...I know my basics around a car engine. Snowmobiles are pretty much totally new to me.) She's bone stock for the time being, I'm just looking for ways to spice 'er up a bit!

"clutching" Modifying the clutch from stock to get the most out of the engine without doing any engine mods. THis usually involves changing the spring and or weights to change the engagement threshold and the topend limit.

IndianRvrShiver. You are a fukkin' pig. That crossed the line. I think that all your ideas about the screens, ski's,running board grips, windshield are great. If you are running factory ski's and the o.k, because of your lower budget (damn student loans) I would look into a set of coloured ski skins. About $60. Easy to install. The wear bars hold it in place. happy sledding.

Thanks for the advice - the $60 mods are more "in line" with my budget than a lot of the things most guys do to their sleds. Eventually, I'll have money to play with. Of course by that time, I'll either have a new sled, or no time to ride it anyway...

I think maybe starting off with skis/ski skins and hand guards would be good. I'm one to work with small changes, then gradually build. I don't really know that I need/want the risers, either. I very rarely stand on my sled - I just don't get that crazy with it! Plus, it doesn't go fast enough to get that crazy with it.

lol too much testosterone in this thread.. i feel the need to pee on something because of it.
1-risers look like **** on these, and your female ass doesnt need them. Risers came about for trying to make taller people a tad more comfortable..
2-ski skins arent just for looks, they actually have a bit of a purpose (less stick in front, plus no worry about metal freezing to ground from what i understand).
3-Studs are fine and dandy, but if you put in a racing clutch eventually, you risk tearing up your track faster than normal with the combination. Honestly, I would stud a weaker machine, because chances are the engine isnt beefy enough to tear up a track, whereas i would almost want to leave a monster be.
Honestly - if you really wanted to make it look nice, you would paint it green

Ski skins
ski skins do serve more than one purpose. They reduce the friction so so may even see a slight speed gain, they also protect you skis and makes steering better cause the wear bar is more exposed. Yeah, handle bar risers are for tall people. They don't look that great either.
