3-Studs are fine and dandy, but if you put in a racing clutch eventually, you risk tearing up your track faster than normal with the combination. Honestly, I would stud a weaker machine, because chances are the engine isnt beefy enough to tear up a track, whereas i would almost want to leave a monster be.

Honestly - if you really wanted to make it look nice, you would paint it green
i bet if you go outside there is a fire hydrant

i would have to dissagree w/ #3. i dont think that clutching a 550 would wear out a studded track any faster than stock. track wear is contributed to riding conditions and the age of the track. not how much of a "monster" it is.

pretty sure i'd rather have studs on a faster sled than a slower one, faster speeds take more to slow down and stop, studs are a must to me, slow or fast if your on ice, but more importantly for a faster sled, and studs will also help for traction to get your faster sled off the line quicker...

i agree with painting it green and putting some arctic cat stickers on it.

really though, studs are an improvement for any sled. given we like to ride on snow, a lot of times the corners are going to be ice. a less experienced rider is going to benefit from studs so the a$$ end doesn't wash out in these corners. remember, if you get studs you may have to increase the length of your carbides to match. good luck!

I almost need studs on my sled (we're thinking 96 - not a ton). Right now, it has a tendency to swing out from under me through corners. It's not a beast of a sled (obviously), and I don't think I'd ever make it one, so I'm not really concerned about the sleds + too much power combo = tearing up the track.

The info on the ski skins is good to know, though!

Now, why would I want to go and junk up a perfectly good sled?

Well for some mods i would recomend some plastic skis, great improvment over stock ones. Then i would highly recomend studing only 96 all ya need, it it does wonders for the sled! i had a 550 prox a year and a half ago that i had studed clutched geared down, it went like a bat out of hell. for cosmetics iw ould get a set fo handgaurds and a chrome or red whindshield it should make your sled look great!

Definitely thinking the plastic skis, handguards, and maybe some red "grip" on the running boards. Not sure on the windshield yet. And definitely only 96 on the track...no need for more than that!

No decal changes now - I like the graphic package that came on it. I thought about doing all white, but I don't want it to get lost against the snow. Just kidding...but I think red screens will break up the hood better - I don't really want all white on top/all red on the bottom.

thats cool i personally dont like screen kits that stand out i like them to blend with the hood but everyone has there own tastes but white skis would look killer if you do one thing i think that would be the biggest improvement

White Skis with red ski loops, Red screens, white belly pan, and some hand guards. Some shock covers would be cool too, and easy to make, just tell your boyfriend to get the sewing machine out.
And don't forget, plastic ski's will be your biggest expense, so save your old skis. That way if you ever sell the sled, you can put the old skis back on and keep the expensive plastic ones for your next sled...

Thanks for the additional suggestions! We just ordered studs & red backings for her...tried to find ski skins, but couldn't find ANY listings for a 2005 (they went up to 2004). I might get a set of handguards on her yet, too.

Instead of skins, go to full plastic skis.
C&A's are a good bet.

I think some other guy on here mentioned something about not getting C&As because I'm a girl or something like that... We've got a trip to Hurley in the works for this coming weekend. Hopefully the studs get put on by then & I can see what she's like, then re-assess and consider other upgrades.

If you just want skins, you buy them to fit by the width of the ski.

If it was my sled i would go with a red windsheld med. cut and a white belly pan. Don't go with ski skins if you want some good skis buy some of the pilot skis that are used on revs they make a pretty sweet red ski that would look good. I am in the same boat, not so much cash right now because being sixteen everything costs money but i just bought a graphics kit and i am going to buy a new windsheld and a full-body pan. But hood inserts look good to and handgaurds are a sweet aafect if you are going to get a low cut windshield.
