Hood Crack Repair

OK,got a cute(sarcastic) episode for you all.My brother-in-law decided to disconnect that annoying reverse beeper on my wife's Rev.Bad for me.When we were out last, everyone had stopped on the side of the trail for a break.I was behind her.Somehow when we fired up all our sleds to get goin' again, she inadvertently put it in reverse. Not seeing the light flashing on the dash, she engaged clutch and ran into my front end, missing the bar and cracking the hood..Brother-in-law now admits his "bad",forgetting about his sister's momentary ineptitude ,and stated he'll hook it back up again.
He told me the only way to fix is to drill a hole where the crack ends, which entails some kinda' bondo patch and paint. Is there a way I could patch from behind so I don't hafta' bondo and paint?

Thanks,
Ken

sticth it up man, or make him buy a new hood (make sure it has options that dont even serve a purpose, so it costs more)

Don't stitch it up!! That looks like garbage.
Repair it from the back using a fiberglass repair kit. They are available all over the place (Wally World, KMart, auto parts store, etc). From the back, rough up the area about 2" either side of the crack, apply the resin soaked f'glass cloth/matt across the crack. Work out any air bubbles & repeat until you have about 4-5 layers. Let it cure o'night & it should look as good as new!
(hint - cover crack on top side with masking tape so any resin will not work it's way onto the painted surface)

Good Luck!!

Drilling a small hole will relieve the stress, and help keep it from cracking.

The product used on this hood repair could easily be used on the inside so no paint is required. If your hood is plastic, do not use fiberglass repair kits.

Good luck

ya i had something like that happend to me but it was bad enough that i had to put fiberglass repair kit on the inside and on the outside and in other places on the outside of the hood that got damaged by my accedant that i had 2 years. it was alot of hard work to fix it but in the end it looked like new and it also gave me a chance to change the stock black paint for metallic black paint. and i did all the work myself and i must say i did a great job on it. i learned to never jump the snowbank at the end of my drive way when theres a car in it cuz u might loose ur grip off the left handle bar and make it turn to the right when u have it standing on the rearend of the track. and when the front comes down u've notic that ur heading for the car and theres nothing u can do to stop it from hitting the car . which i ended up doing 1200$ of damage to my sled. but i saved myself money by fixing the hood myself and all i had ro do was pay for the new nose cone and the hood hing support and hing brakes and left and right bumpers. the best part is that it only cost me 500$ to fix everying including the hood. so it pays to do thing urself

theres this plastic repair kit at hardwares stores we used. we actually fabbed up a hood bracket using it and and old pool filter lid haha. (where the bolts go to connect the bracket to the hood was broken...) stuff works great.

i could see that happening easily with RER and no beeping. probably pressed it twice quick, and when it bogged to change over, well, that wouldnt be noticeable off the start. yeah the beeper is important haha

My hood is finally finished. It turned out great. Nice and strong. Can't even tell where it was cracked. Just need some graphics for it now.

Talking

Well its kinda funny really because i just had a snowmachine accident without even moving... HAHA I was pushing my slep up into the carport with my cavalier, and it slipt and dented the bumper and cracked the hood even more. I definately need to learn how to drive LOL. Try to beat that. Sad thing is i have this hood cracked everywhere. Think it is time for a new one, and maybe another to put on the shelf haha. You guys have a good one.
