1999 Powder Special 700

I have recently rebuilt the engine on my Powder Special 700. All seems great with good power and good RPM. The problem that I am having is when it is sitting at a idle it coughs or when Im de-accelerating down a hill at a coast the machine coughs and backfires. Does anyone know what might cause this...?

Check the color of the plugs, you might have a little lean condition at idle.

Did you change the reeds in the bottom of the jug? Atleast flip them over?

thanks for teh reply - 1999 Powder Special 700

HI Guys

Thanks for the responces, I have looked at the plugs and they look ok. I will have to look into the reeds however I made a change on the needle in the carb and it made it worse. I beleive its something in the carb now.
