zr580 steering prob

My moms zr 580 cant steer all the way to left(I was driving it around on dirt and it didnt want to steer to the left). The right is fine, steers another 10-20 degrees more than left. She said it was doing it in the winter but she thought it was normal, so she didnt complain. It can still be turned far to the left using those things on the skis that u pull, but once u start to move it goes back to retard mode.
-when turning right, its fine
- when turning left, no good

I think its something messed up inside the steering column thingy. The sled was rolled this winter by my dad at 40 mph, so i think he broke it.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

You'll have to do a complete check of the steering system, especially where the bottom of the steering column meets the tie rods, down under the engine somewhere. That's where most of the problems occur.

look at the tie rod ends, often after they are so many years old they develop a slop. and how old are the wear rods.

There is a good possibility that an obstruction like a spare spark plug or something of that sort got lodged against the linkage under the engine. This is what I usually find when a customer brings one in with those symptoms.

Good Luck!

check the upper and lower a-arms,the same thing happened to my zr and the a-arms were bent, causing the spindle to be at a funny(though slight) angle. The spindle has a stopper on the top and it was hitting way before it was at normal turning radius.
