1998 ZR600 EFI Running Issue

Ok guys back again with another issue. I of course am one of the Cat owners that have been plagued with stator issues. I would go through 2 stators a year easy. 2 years ago Blaine redid a stator up for me and it has worked solid.

This weekend while riding, we went about 60 miles on Friday and on Sat I made it 20 miles from my house and it just lost all power and I had to pull over. The sled would remain at idle which made me feel good cuz a friends ZR 900 and my sister in laws Rev 800 both blew up on Friday.

So it idles only, and dies when I give it throttle. Once we got it home I tried it again. It started and idled for about 10 seconds and then quit and now will not restart.

Blaine I sent ya a pm and will test the stator one of these nights here but before I get too far into it I was curious if any of you had something else I should be checking besides the stator?

I would start by seeing if you have spark.

I checked my stator and I am getting a 0 reading on the low side ignition coil. I will send it to Blaine since he is good with these things.

Man feel your pain with that 98.

I can say this i have had countless arctic cats with perfect stators never had a problem.

I mean 80s, 90's 2000's i have no idea what the 98's issue is seems like from the picture it melted. If anything just port the crap out of that recoil housing. get some air in there

Do not by an aftermarket one, or even an OEM.
Send it to Kev or Blain1 and have it rewound.

verify a good solid ground. Arching and melting indicates a heat issue and this is usually a loose or faulty ground. Just my 2 cents If you are going through that many stators i would suspect there is a heavy draw in the system to overload and then melt it down.

I have been burning them up since it was new, When I did more riding then I do not i had 2 spares on the shelf in the garage. I already changed one on a trip to Michigan.

Grounds are all good.
