Any thoughts on plastic ski covers? I notice my sled likes to get stuck in the deeper stuff...or going up hills. Do the ski skins allow the skies to glide a bit easier? I'm sure a deeper lugged track would help, but that'll probably cost as much as I paid for the entire sled. ; )

Plastic skis or skins will slide easier through the snow an will not freeze up as easily.

Yes a deeper lug track will help and you can get good used or even new take offs fairly reasonable.
You can also improve deep snow capability by lowering the skid mounts in the tunnel so that there is more clearance.

I think I'll give the plastic skins a shot...$50 or so...can't hurt.

How about studding the track? Is that worth it? I'll often run out of steam going up a hill, the track spins...and I'm down to frozen ground...

Some studs would help there.
With that size engine, 96 would be more than enough.
I'd also go with the screw in type [cheaper and lighter]

Cool. I've never seen those screw ins before. Those look interesting. Might be a good option since I'm just riding the ungroomed woods.
