99 zr600 efi clutch question

hello every one i got out last weekend for the first time on my sled since i bought it like a year and a half ago since there was no snow near me last year , i bought the sled and then installed a reverse kit in it and the problem i am having is that it has to rev to like 5k before the clutch engages and it not smooth it hits hard. it kind of sucks trail riding i am always reving i really dont remember what it was like when i bought it but the orig owner did not look like someone who would install a aftermarket clutch in it considering it was a spare guest sled my question is could that be a clutch issue or something in the gear case like chain tension too tight/too loose ? i believe the spring is yellow also thanks !!

I'd guess that your clutch is probably worn out... Remove it and give it a good inspection.

Spring is weak or broken could be the problem also.
You will have to remove the end plate to inspect it.

Re: 99 zr600 efi clutch question

The yellow spring is stock, but if it has never been replaced it's probably pretty shot by now. I would service both clutches. Install new springs, check roller condition, make sure ramps are smooth and check to ensure weights are moving freely, as well as cleaning the sheaves and a new belt.

A High engagement wouldn't have a worn out spring, but could be a stuck or sticky clutch!
