hey guys. i just bought a 2002 zr 800 CCE with a brand new track, d&d clutching, 4500 miles for $500. The flaws: he put a stud through the front heat exchanger, and ran it out of antifreeze and melted down the motor. im wondering as to what i should do. consider a whole new motor? im not too good with workin on these things. anything will help so please feel free. thanks ALOT.

Step 1 - Tear it down to assess the damage. Once you know what needs to be replaced and or repaired, you will be in a better position to determine which way to go.
Who knows, maybe you'll be lucky and get away with a top end overhaul which isn't nearly as expensive as a complete motor or even a used motor.
BTW has the heat exchanger been repaired?

I agree also. Tear it down to look at the damage. There are great guys on here and other forums to help you through it. That's how you get experience and knowledge of your own sled. It could be frustrating as he.. sometimes,but that is what makes it fun. Plus you can drink a lot of beer doing it!!! Lol

Is it the one in the pic? Just curious because it has a ZRT / thunder at / Pantera hood. What happened to the original? Check that sled over REAL well.

I would just go threw it completely seals and all! And have the exchanger welded!
