So the 340 mechanical brake system is very simple. The inside pad is fixed and the outside has a backing plate behind the pad with a clip that is supposed to hold them from falling out.
Thursday I lost my brakes. The pads and backing plate had just fallen out and I found them sitting in the belly pan.
I checked my service manual and the inside fixed pad is supposed to be glued to the caliper. So I did that. the outside one though won't stay in. The one clip barely holds the pad and plate during reassembly. As soon as I grab a handful of brake they come out of the recess in the caliper.
Does anyone have any hints on this? It seems like there should be another clip to hold them in.

Won't stay if the pad is too worn down.

You might be on to something. Not sure how thick a new one is but what was in there is about 3/8".
