2002 800 efi liquid hard to pull start

Started up my sled after storage for summer. Ran great for ten minutes. Shut it down and when I tried to start it the pull cord was really hard to pull.I thought I would break it. Took the spark plugs out and it was the same. After cussing I tried it once more and it was alittle easier but I could not pull it fast to get it started. The drive belt was not that tight.Any ideas? thanks

Pull off the cover to your starter recoil and see if something in there is bound up or broken.

If you try to turn it over by the clutch, is it the same?

QWhat do the plugs look like? Did you clean the carbs before you tried to start it?

I went found out that the pulley wasn't opening enough and the belt wasn't loose enough for me to turn it over. I raised the track off the ground and got it running and sprayed some lubricant on the clutch.

Lubricant on the clutch is not so good of an idea!

My guess is you have bad rollers or weights in the primary that is not allowing the movable sheave to let go of the belt. When you pull the rope, you are trying to move the sled forward. Look at the rollers and weights very carefully when you clean the clutch of the lube you put on it. Clutches are designed to run clean and dry, any liquid lube will attract belt dust and compound your problem.

It's possible that just cleaning will solve your problem, but look for wear in the back side of the weights and flat spots in the rollers.

Brake cleaner, or plain 'ole soap and water is best for your clutches. Any sort of lube is very bad!

Bake clean and Soap will leave a film! Just use Scotch Bright or sand paper!
