'95 pantera 580 efi needs help....

Hello I'm a new member and I need help with my '95 Arctic Cat Pantera 580 efi

I bought it last year and due to NO snow in eastern Ontario I only rode my sled once when I trailered it Barry's Bay in Northern Ontario, Canada The sled worked great and ran amazing so I put it in my barn and all was good away for the season.

But...in August I was bored so I drove it out of the barn on to the lawn and washed her up making look great and put it back into storage.

Now....The snow has arrived with a vengence and the problems have begun. First the sleds battery litterally froze so I replaced it and then I had a burnt fuse so replaced that, so I get it running and it won't move at all. The brake rotor completely rusted so it wouldn't turn after lots of forcing I got the brake rotor to turn and then the sled would move aswell. So I have a running moving sled but there's still a noise coming from the engine area like something's binding up. I think the brake is still stuck on and I don't know what to try. I could just remove the pads completely but then I wouldn't have a brake. I can barely squeeze the brake lever at all.

Oh and I can't seem to move the gear lever from forward to reverse like it's stuck or something.

I don't know if these are things that I can fix or should I locate a dealership and have them give the sled a once over.

Sorry for the wordiness, I'll keep the threads shorter from now on.

Open the chain case and clear out any ice, refill with 12oz of oil.

Yep and did you grease the suspension too?

Very new at all of this but know my way around a car engine so I have faith that I can do this. I'll check my manual for the removing of the chain case but what kind of oil do I buy and I'm guessing the manual is going to show me where to add the oil.

Thanks!
Pete
I'm going to start a new thread as soon as I get another chance cause I'm at work but while I have your attention is there a perticular reason why it would be difficult to impossible to move the gear lever that engages reverse and forward.

No I haven't but I'll check my manual for where to grease and what kind to buy. Thanks for the tip.

For the same reason the sled won't move, ice in the chain case.
It only takes 6 bolts to get the cover off.
There is a drain plug under the drive shaft inside the tunnel.

I'm new to this forum so forgive me for my ignorance. Can pictures be posted, I'll go looking around on internet for pictures. My repair manual doesn't show a clear diagram.

My manual says to remove the ecu and bracket and move to the side and remove battery and battery box and then open the clutch shield and remove the drive belt and goes on to describe removing the driven pulley from the engine compartment and on and on....far more then just six bolts?

Thanks,
Pete

Ok, you will have to remove the ECU and battery box to open the chain case.
The rest is only if you are going to remove the entire case from the frame.

Although, you should be able to get at all 6 bolts without removing anything as there is enough room to do this.
You only need to be able to clean out the case and inspect the chain and gears at this point.
