2001 ZR800 First Impressions!

Back in November I put down a non refundable deposit on a 2001 ZR800 for a friend. Long story short, he back out and I didn't want to lose my deposit and just bought it figuring I could re-sell it or keep it for the wife if she liked it better than her 2001 ZRT600.

We decided to list the ZRT and keep the ZR. Well yesterday we finally had some snow here so I took my 2011 F8 ltd and the ZR for a ride. I went by myself to a starting point about an hour north.

So, ended up doing about 125 miles on my F8 and got back to the truck around 10:30. I was tired, but I wanted to run the ZR800 because I hadn't yet rode it and I wanted to make sure it was good to go.

It has a D&D can on it which I didn't really care for but damn... That little sled RIPS! I got on the trail with the intent of doing a mellow little ride but that thing just wanted to go. All I can say is that it's hard to keep the skis on the snow. Who ever did the clutching on it did a great job because it was right there at every speed. I don't think anything has been done to the motor but I'm really surprised how fast that little bastard is.

Wifey is going to have some fun this season!

Glad you like the sled! I've got one myself, with a Sno Stuff can that was added by the previous owner, and it's just plain loud. I'm actually thinking I ought to go back to stock, or at least something a little quieter than what I've got. Aside from the tickets I could get, I don't really enjoy coming home with my ears ringing after a ride. Otherwise a great sled though.

And people look at me funny and say I'm prejiduce about the ZR! I trll Everyone that 'Still to this day ALL sled suspension are compared to a ZR!' Wait till you get the chance to put that Puppy into the twisties! I gaurentee that 12year old sled will keep up with your new F8! My '02 ZR 800 has a set of Jaws Pipes and I had to order the quiet can for it!
Congrats on the Ride!

I rode from big rapids, through reed city, Baldwin, to just south of Cadillac.

KC, by seat of the pants, it feels every bit as quick! Now, I'd like to scrap that can for a stock one or maybe a D&D. I think the one that's on there is a MBRP and its just plain too loud for my tastes. Now I'm watching eBay.
