Bought a 98 Bearcat 340 but...

Haven't heard it run yet. Yesterday I sold an old junk 89 Safari for $250. I found a 98 Bearcat 340 with trailer for $400 so I bought it. 2800 miles. No windshield. Primer kit tee broken off so couldn't start it but the guy says it's mint. Track brand new four years ago and looks brand new. Sled was in storage for seven years without being used. Homemade tilt trailer with new lights is registered and tows great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Stay tuned to see how this turns out. Will be taking it to a mechanic this week to be gone over. Just couldn't pass it up!

Congrats! Don't take it in, do it yourself! Start with cleaning the carbs! Go threw the How too section here!

I wish I had the time and a place to work on it but I have my own business and don't really have enough time. I took it to a mechanic today. Some day I hope to have a shop space where I can do my own repiar in the evenings.

It runs! Heard from my mechanic and here's what he's done so far. He removed the fuel tank and emptied it which he said was a pain because on this model the tank and seat are all one unit. He also had to remove the rack to get the seat off. The tank was half full of water. I suspected there night be a lot of water in it too because the gas cap was missing the glass over the gauge and water can get right in. He replaced the pick-up tube and all lines from there to my carb. He blew out the fuel filter. He cleaned the carb which he said was rusted pretty badly. He ordered a windshield. It now runs. Today he will address everything else. I'll keep you posted.

It's home now. Starts and runs nice. Everything works even the reverse alarm. Total bill for mechanic going over the whole thing including a new windshield and gas gauge/cap, pick-up tube, fuel lines and other assorted parts was $434.15. Fair enough. And fast service. I think I made out okay. Great utility sled.
