1989 JAG ignition upgrade?
I just spent alot of money on e-bay parts to rebuild this 89 jag with a great chassis. when i bought it the engine was toast so i couldnt do much.
now its all back together but has no spark, the engine internal elecs seam to all check out OK with resistence(ohm) tests. but i cant figure out how to test the cdi and coil, the both seam to have no readings whatsoever!
i do have a couple of new ignition coil/cdi all in one off me 93 skidoos,
both sleds appear to have a 4 wire harness,
can i upgrade the 89 jag, from a cdi and seperate coil to the new all in one of the 93 rotax,
if so do you have any tips, or would this be better posted on the vintage forum.
Thanks

You probably can use the Rotax CDI/coil pack, but you will have to experiment with getting the wires right so it will shut off.

Start by just unpluging the 4 way connector comeing out of the motor! Test for spark! If still non, jump the brown and black on the motor side and test! This will atleast tell you if it is a kill or not!

so i had to bite the bullet and put in a new CDI, not happy at $120.
installed the CDI, pulled her over, it started, idled for about 45 seconds then died. i double checket the carb settings incase it just flooded out, their good, let it sit for 1/2 hr, cranked it over again, sputtered once or twice, and now no spark!!
WHAT THE BEANS!
is there a throttle kill sensor or something of the sort that can foul-up?
i know its not the kill switch or key because i circut tested them.

OK then it is one of the following kills; carb switches, throtle lever switch, ignition switch, teather, or the kill switch! But it can also be in the wire harness too!

YUP, got er traced back to the throttle switch, lengthy process of trial and error, along with elimination as you go.
Sure wish there was an easier way, but what do you do.
So i bypassed the defect switch and she starts and runs every time now!
