ZR 580 tether switch problem

I have a 96 ZR 580 EFI that was converted to carb from the last owner. I pulled the tether while it was running, it killed it, then it wouldn't start again after I put the tether back on. I ended up bridging the wires that bypass all the other electrical components besides the spark plugs and it worked fine. I want to at least make it so the key works again, the tethers not so important to me. I could probably just wire the key to the ignition and bypass the tether, but I still don't know why it happened only when I pulled the tether when it was running because I had pulled it off when the sled was off and it started after that. I'm guessing there's a short that started when I pulled the tether while it was running. Any thoughts?

You can just bypass that switch.
I personally would replace it.

If you loosen the counsel you will see the ign switch and the teather! The 2 wires to the teather can just be unhooked and the 2 wires can just go to the ign switch!

Alright thanks guys, I'll bypass the tether and see what happens. Is it common for those to go bad?

No, it's more likely that the key switch does.

I did have one go bad, to get back to the trailer, I had to use a small piece of wood under the tether so that there was adequate pressure on the pressure switch for it to work. I was at wits end until I figured that out. I hate electrical problems. Can't see those dang electrons moving on that wire!

As mentioned above, I wouldn't bypass a tether; I'd replace it. Search YouTube for "Runaway sled" video... 'nuff said.

Yeah I'll end up replacing it. Still baffles me as to why it went bad when I pulled it while it was running vs. when it was off. BC_Dan - I tried pushing the tether button down with a screwdriver to make sure that wasn't problem and no dice there.
