Cougar 550 Engine swap.

Hey guys, hows it going!? how was everyone summer? who cares lol!? snowmobiling here we come.

Anyway I found a older style cougar with a 700 put in it, guy says it runs and goes well, I was thinking about putting a 700 in my sled, figured maybe I could use the engine brackets out of this sled and save myself some time, or maybe use some ideas.

Besides that I would just be using the engine, one question is , will there be room for the two huge pipes, Im not honestly sure, ill have to do some measurements, ,my dad has a 700 so that isnt a problem.

How will I like the clutches up, the obviously have to be centered, and I have heard about center to center, but how do you actually check it? that seems like the biggest obstical, second is, will the drive train of the 550 hold up? or will i just destroy my chain case ect?

thanks guys, good to be back on here. Im already ready for snow.

The drive train can take it.
The c to c would be the same, appx 10.5".
The biggest problem will be gettin the offset correct.

What sled is this going into? C-C would be 12.2 (12 1/4 works) depending on what year! There is an offset and cc tool. I have a flat bar type! As for the chain case, again depending on sled and year, the 700 might have a 13 wide or 15 wide chain, the other could have an 11?

The sled it would be going into is a 96 Cougar 550, I have no idea what year the engine is, It twin pipe and looks like the engine out of my dads 94 zr700 if that helps at all.

I want to clear up Center-Center and offset.

Center-center- The Center of the Primary to the center of the secondary

Offset - The measurement of how aligned the primary and secondary clutch are, in terms of the belt being straight.

Is this right? also Ill probably pick up those tools if they are not super expensive Probably worth it to make everything work well.

waiting for an email back, ill let you guys know very soon.

The center to center is 12.2, the offset is 1.365"
HPE has the clutch alignment tool!
