I did not only because they seemed to pump plenty of gas.
There are two fuel pumps on this snowmobile, and with a yank of a cord gas shoots out pretty good.
looked in the vacuum lines going to the fuel pump for gas, seeing if maybe that is were the flooding was coming from.
it seemed dry and all the fuel system seems to be in good working condition.
rj, you said just take the cable off, by my only concern is, the oil line would then still be hooked up, wouldn't that mean that oil could still leak into the base?
or should I just disconnect the cable prior just to make sure its not over oiling.

And as I stated that my 700 was doing the same as you'res and it was the pumps. I would suggest to change them and or clean them to just to element the problem.

will do, you do think that you sled wasn't getting enough fuel? i have a zr 580 and a cougar 550, I can take one pump off each sled and put it on the 700.
that should eliminate that, then ill run 50:1 premix, disconnect the oiler and run it...see if anything clears up.

No it was pushing to much fuel in and fouled it out so bad it wouldn't fire and when I pulled the pipe off the gas just pored out.

the problem with my dads sled was in the middle of a ride.
thanks, definitively going to swap fuel pumps, really want to figure out this things problem.

I wouldn't say in mid ride cuz we didn't have snow at the time. I was getting it ready for snow and that's when it started. I did everything you did to try and figure it out and that's what it ended up being. Not
saying that's what your problem is but it sounds exactly like what I went threw just a month a go. I would change'em out just to see.

Awesome, Ill swap them out...figure I have tried just about everything, and there is really only a few things left, I feel like I'm going to be able to figure it out now, that makes me happy.
Got to sort out the oil pump and fuel pump and then all that's left is jetting.
but because the problem happened mid ride and no one changed the jetting, i dout its that, but when I dropped the needle it seemed to run a little better.

Just to make sure that it is not over oiling.
If the pump is bad, it will still use as much oil from the tank because it has gone to default mode [wide open oil supply].

Can you get a good eye on your oil pump to make sure that the lines on the pump are lined up properly? And slide your hand down there and work it up and down to see if you feel and binding.

Drained the oil tank and put some 50:1 mix in the sled now that we got a little snow. its not going to last long but we got 8 inches of snow till sunday.
anyway, the sled seemed to respond much better, the only place I could test it were the roads, I know I know, im horrible and illegal, but it worked and actually was a nice huge groomed trail.
The sled is running better, it was oiling to much BUT there is still a loss in power at 5000-6000 rpm.
the sled runs great up till 5000 and when you give it some throttle and keep it over 6000 it screams, its like a rocket ship, but when your cruise down the trails( or road haha) at 45mph, and the clutches shift out and it gets bellow 6k rpm, it loses power and wont go faster then 45, no matter how much throttle you give it.
slow down and get it under 5000 rpm, then clamp it ( or just get it past 6000rpm) and it takes off like a rocket ship, until it drops bellow that 6k mark again.
NOTE****the rpm numbers might not be exact its hard to read the tach exactly when your doing 75mph on this sled ( the lens is fogged up)
but those numbers are close.
maybe someone has another idea now..

This part seems to be pointing to back shift of the secondary. Do you have another one that you can try on it?
The other option is to look at the mid range setting of the carbs. What is the notch that the slide needle is set to.

Now that you mention it, the snowmobile was having trouble taking off at first, poped the cowl and the belt was about an inch down into the secondary clutch, I thought it was weird, manually straightened everything out and it took off fine.
figured it was a weird glitch, maybe that is the problem, ill look into it after school.
ALSO - the need jet was 3 notches down from the top, i lowered the needle ONE notch(second notch down) to lean it out and see if it helped, Didn't seem to so I put it back to the third notch down.
now ill look into the clutch.
thanks rj and everyone else for all the help! you have been awesome, hopfully we are starting to pin this problem down.

Yep, definitely the secondary is the culprit.
Take it apart and clean the center shaft/bushing area.
Make sure that the spring has enough preload on it too.
Replace the plastic buttons as long as you have it apart too.

Hey guys, back to this. Last year we decided it was over oiling, and before we could test everything (after the new jug ect) the snow melted. So this year we mixed up some 50:1 and ran the sled.
It didn't seem to have that low end bog like it did, the really irritating one, but the sled still isn't running right. It pulls decently strong till about 55mph and then it shifts and doesn't have the power to continue. Sled will only rev to about 6800rpm full throttle.
Messed with the jetting and leaning it out seemed to help, and airscrew does make a difference.
Nothing seems to fix it though.

I was messing with the needle and everything so much in the past trying to figure out what is wrong with this thing. I cant even remeber what needle setting it should be on. Does anyone know? I would love to figure this sled out, but at this point Im running out of ideas.
