Stuck gearbox

Not sure what is happening but when idling the top rotating assy, ie secondary clutch/brake rotor are not spinning. When I give it gas it clamps down on belt but the secondary won't budge. I shut it down and rolled it over on its side and the track won't spin either. If I put it in reverse the track will spin but the top assy still will not budge. I think something is wrong in the gearbox, something is jammed or something failed. Anyone have this experience?

Take the chaincase cover off and inspect for damage. It's probably the secondary clutch bearing in the case.

When I bought my ZL550, the brake pads were seized onto the brake rotor. Showed the same symptoms as you describe...

Oops... re-read your post. A seized brake would not work either direction... If it runs in reverse, it does sound like something in your chaincase.

So I opened the chain case and both of the reverse gears had teeth missing. So I need to find replacements that aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg. Just one gear new is $165... ouch
