time is slipping away

its just going to have to go to dealership.there isn't much riding time left, the season will be over soon.i don't know what else to do.usually i can fix my sled but this electrical has got me beat.dealership must be cheaper then replacing cdi, coils, etc.

Your voltmeter should be set to ohms and you should get 3 different readings. If you don't get any readings at all that means there is a break in the stator and it's not working at all. Replace the stator and keep on riding.
The dealer has never ever ever been cheaper then buying aftermarket and doing it myself. Thats been my experience.

stator no ground wire

thanks for reply. On the stator four prong plug(two yellow brown, black) there is no ground wire coming out.Should there be a ground coming out of plug? The three prong plug going to cdi has seperate ground wire conecting to cdi.

that harness supplying the cdi is the one you want to be concerned about. do an ohmeter test on it and if all of your readings are zero, then your stator is shot. Blaine1 will rewind it for you for around 200 bucks.

Not to take anything away from Blaine1 but as he told me - "you would be better off finding a used stator somewhere".

You can get several types of readings from a stator:

good readings
no readings
good low bad high
bad low good high
higher readings on either the low or high speed

in your case you have no readings which is an easy diagnosis of a bad stator

You have an old style stator where you have the low speed and high speed coils stacked on top of each other. I can rewind it, but in your case as it was in Case 450's experience for that specific stator you can usually buy 2 or 3 used ones for the price of one of my rewinds which is $150. That is not true in all or actually many cases, but it is in your case because that is a common stator. I try to save guys time and $ when i can and that is why I recommend finding a used one in this specific case.

I sent you the long list of sleds that used that same stator and told you if you couldn't find one after a couple of days you could send it to me to rewind. i was just trying to save you some time and $ just like I am for JamesBlondeau.

bad stator

thanks for all the replies! i took off stator today and seen that it was all broken up inside.Around edmonton they are asking $375 for a rewound stator.i looked around and found a guy that was sent the wrong stuff from ebay and has magneto, stator, coil, pick ups,cdi for $250 so i will go get that tonight. should i look to replace anything else or keep the parts and just use stator? again thanks for all the help and should be sledding tonight.ride on!!!

I get it man...now that i re-read my post it came off with the wrong tone...i knew you meant it like it was cheaper for me to scare up a used one and it was.

I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.
