Unhappy 1996 ZR 440 wont go into forward gear

I have a 1996 arctic cat 440 ZR.

When I put it away last weekend i went from reverse to forward with out holding the brake.

I heard it grind as i have several times before when i didn't hold the brake, my bad.

Now it will go in reverse but not forward. the shaft spins but it won't turn the track.

I'm thinking/hoping that it's just a linkage problem?

I am pretty new to snowmobiling. I have some mechanical ability.

Might this be a simple fix?

Thanks for any help

Paul
