take your handlebar pad off and your dash pod with the key. follow your wires down from your throttle down. there should be a three wire plug. looks like a trailer light plug. unplug it and try it around the house a few laps. this didconnects the throttle positiioning sensor and your kill switch. with this unplugged you can freeze your carbs open and go for a ride. or start it up and watch it go for one. and remember no kill switch, only the key works.

i have heard about throttle safety switches acting up alot on arcticats. that y i thought that would be the problem on my sled untill sum1 told me that my sled doesnt have one. they just basically kill the engine when your throttle gets stuck.

was out messing around with it today and found that it wasnt the switch. i disconnected the kill switch and the trottle switch. it still would act up and backfire. when i had it unplugged niether the killswitch or the trottle safety switch would work. which leads me to the next possibility...

i noticed today that the stock can had been cut open and re-welded shut. i am not exactly sure as to why someone would do this but have heard of people taking them apart and taking out the guts to make sleds louder. i suspect that somone gutted the can and it is now low on back pressure. anyone think this could cause backfiring when you let off the trottle?

anyone with any ideas??

After unplugging the throttle switches you have to install a jumper wire on the harness side to create a loop. This will tell you if there is any problem with them.
An exhaust leak can cause a backfire on decel due to it sucking in cold air.
