1997 Articat ZR 580 EFI Not Starting

Hi,

My friend has a 1997 Articat ZR 580 EFI batteryless. Out of blue, it just died on the trail and backfired. They changed the plugs, ran like crap, backfired and died. It would not start again.

I took a look at it and this is what I checked.
Ohmed the kill switch and key switch and they check out fine. I even disconnected the both switches (because under normal running conditions the switch contacts are open) still no spark.

The EFI unit/computer LED light blinks once when pull started. I believe that means all is OK as far as it knows.

I checked for voltage to the coil from the computer (when pull started of course), but no voltage to the coil.

I checked for voltage to the injectors and nothing there.

So I am figuring it may be the sensor for the crank shaft? I tried removing the 2 aluminum screws but they are no stinking tight I didn't want to strip the head. I forgot to bring my impact screwdriver to remove them. I'm assuming that is the issue because the computer seems to be alive but just no getting the signal to fire.

I also checked for voltage at the headlight when pull started but it only reached 2.5 to 3 volts. I can only assume that is normal because it's not running at 2000RPMs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lloyd

My dad and I both have the same sled....his did the exact same thing and it was the flywheel key on the crank.....it would spin the flywheel out of wack so the timing was off but the nut was still tight so it would still spin....thats the frist thing I would check either that your stator might be going bad.
