wildcat 650

Hello everyone. I aquired a wildcat 650 and was wondering if anyone had any maintenece tips with this sled? Or if their was anything to worry about? The sled is mint and runs great. On another note what is the best way to drain the gas tank? Thanks for the help.

P.S Be gentle, this is my first post! lol...

WELCOME to the forum!

You said "be gentle" so I *won't* suggest sticking your head in the gas tank and sucking up all the gas...

The best way to get it drained would be to remove it and dump the old gas out. If removing it is a pain, siphoning should do the trick. I have found that a stiff tube attached to the tank end of the siphon works great at getting to the bottom of the tank.

Bottom line: If it's just old gas... siphon. If there's crud in there, I think it would be worth the effort to remove the tank so you can make sure it gets cleaned properly.

I runs pretty good. I had a yama 700sx triple, and I think this twin will run with that triple. At least it feels that way! The top end is sweet. Nice sled pic by the way.

Saw a couple 80's Wildcat 650's on eBay recently for decent prices. Nice looking sleds, for an older model.

I've got an 88 Wildcat 650,but haven't been able to get much use out of it, it will start and idle great, but won't wind out, just barely makes enough rpms to get up to 30 or 40 mph, but sometimes if you are playing with the throttle, it will take off like a rocket, then go back to blaaaahhhhh if you try to accelerate. Had the carbs rebuilt, fuel pumps, reset the oil pump, new charge and ignition coil, new cdi, and have just about given up, any one want a Wildcat ????? I also have a mint seat for a 89 - 91 Wildcat, bought it for mine, then found out the 88 is a different seat style, so now I also have that to deal with !!!! Any suggestions, or offers???
