I have a 2001 zr 800 and about two years ago my magneto side piston skirt broke off on the intake side. just to clear this up, "I do realize that there was a piston recall on these motors". the thing that really makes me wonder about other issues at hand is the fact that in my two year search for parts, I have personally seen 8 or more of these same motors with the exact same mag side failure. A few of these failed motors even had the updated 3006-029 oem pistons. same thing with these udated pistons, the intake skirt in the magneto side caused lots of dammage. I have seen crankshafts from these motors that were in in good running order before being parted, and the magneto side crank bearings and rod bearings allways showed pre-failure.
Im just throwing this out here to see if there is anyone who might have any insight or knowledge of what it is exactly that seems to be causing this common problem.
