Sled bogging.

My family has had a 2000 AC powder special 600 EFI for about 5 years. Last season while riding, it will randomly bogg out. You will be riding and all of a sudden it feels like someone hit the kill switch, and sometimes it will die. What could it be?

TSS(throttle safety switch) take off the handlebar pad and styrafoam, look on the throttle side, theyll be a 3 wire harness, disconnect the middle one, that way ur kill switch will still work.... very common problem in ACs

Hmm ok thanks, I will try that. I thought it may be like a sensor or something.

If it has a tether, that switch could also be a problem child. I towed a ZR 580 15 miles back to the truck because it died and wouldn't start, tore into it big time, ended up the tether wasn't pushing the switch in enough to keep it from grounding. Pretty frustrating day, that one was.

No it does not have a tether. I was told it could be a EGR valve or something like that. I don't remember exactly.

Lots of things can cause a "bog". Easiest thing to check is the TSS switch by unplugging the 3 wire connector like polaris rider said...TSS going bad causes that condition and is a very common problem. Unplugging it also bypasses your kill switch. There is a way to wire it (very easy) so that it bypasses the TSS (throttle safety switch) but the kill still works. I just leave mine unplugged to omit the TSS and the kill switch. I just use the key to turn it on and off. You could also be looking at power valve issues, possible stator issue ect...many other things but start by bypassing the TSS.

I've had a bad/intermitant key switch! Or it could be the stator giving up!

On the EFI's you can't just unplug the 4 pin connector (located down by the stator)coming from the stator to bypass all of the switches. You can do that on non-EFI sleds and it will bypass all of the switches. You just have to shut it off by choking it or removing the plug caps. That's why when responding people recommended unplugging the connector by the handlebars to specificly check the TSS switch.

im 95% its the TSS.. pretty much everyone i kno with a zl/zr has a problem with it.. simple fix... and I dont think a dirty clutch would make a bog, it would make it not engage properly
