1991 Arctic Cat 530 EXT Clyinder / Bore

Hello All

I have a cylinder off a 1991 Arctic Cat 530 Ext that has some gouging due to a ring failure.

My question is can I bore this clyinder oversize ? I.E. (.040 or 1mm oversize)

I have heard mixed things about this because people have told me that there is some special palting on them, and that if you bore it you must replate it.

I have bored several cylinders for dirt-bikes and what not but have never run into this issue.

I also have a new set of 1mm oversize pistons.

Just not sure about the plating issue.

Anyone got experience with this ?a

If you have it bored out, it must be replated, or overbored and sleeved.

Leave that URL out of posts, it is considered spam.

You might try ebay for a cylinder, that's where I found mine when same thing happened to my engine last year, used cost shipped was 80 bucks. Although if you already have the pistons likely not what your after. Cost for boring and replating will likely be fairly high, nickasil is what is use in these cylinders and only a few places around that will do the work, are you stuck on going over size?

There are several places that will repair and recoat your existing cylinder. US Chrome and Millenium Technologies are two that come to mind. I had damaged cylinders that I sent to Millenium, sent them the pistons, they fit the piston to the newly repaired cylinder for about half the cost of a new cylinder... I've heard good things about US Chrome as well.
