When you try the engine to see if it is free, turn it by hand using the clutch.
This way if the rings are stuck to the cylinders, you will not do any damage to the lining.
Putting some penetrating oil onto the cylinders will usually free them up and you can then get the engine running again.

Take it out and give it a good clean... if it sat that long it will NOT run without one. There's a guide to cleaning carbs in the "sled how-tos" thread.

get er going!!!

I have a 74' panther 340 that my grandfather bought brand new. Gave it to me (I was 13)when he died in 89' and it was in mint condition. Since then a broken hood and lil rip in the seat but it still runs awesome every winter. Love the friggin thing

Cowls and seats or any other kind of cosmetic won't matter unless you sell it or want SOTM or really want to show it off. To me, all that matters is if it runs. My mach 1 sat for a year and my cousin (the old owner) had been pretty rough with it. He really did a number on the cowl and there is a rip in the seat as well as a few little fixes here and there. The kill switch broke off and a bolt fell out of the track. Other than that, she'll run like a clock. That will probably be the case with this sled. DON'T BE AFRAID TO POST TOO MANY PICS OF IT WE ALL WANT TO SEE THEM.
