YouTube - Wildcat 650 Finally got a video up I had to bug my cousin since I dont have a youtube account. You can see the exhaust leak and hear the pinging slightly at first but it gets more obvious after I rev it up. Just let me know what ya think. I was thinking the clutch might need some cleaning/work too. I had it at 5k rpms and it still hadnt engaged yet, but other times itll take off a lil above 4k.

If your spark plug electrode is melting, your engine may be running too hot. This can be from many causes like running too lean, wrong plug heat range, no cooling snow on heat exchanger, no oil, etc. If your oil level is too low, there may not be enough "head" pressure to run the oil to the pump. This is less likely in warm weather as the oil is typically thin and flows well but well worth topping up!

The pipe is supposed to have a "donut gasket" in there, if it is missing or badly worn, that will allow for leakage.
The engine sounds OK to me.
If the clutch is engaging at different rpms , it is definitely in need of cleaning.

I took a closer look at the clutch and the primary will shoot over usually about 4k rpms, but it just doesnt catch the belt. The area where the belt grips on the clutch is clean, but it just wont grab. The engine will usually bog down and it'll just slip. It will occasionally take off and run good for a bit but then die. The spark plugs are the correct ones according to the repair manual I have for it and the color on them looks good, if anything its running rich, but one side is a lighter color than the other. Where could I find a donut gasket? I might take it apart today. Its full of oil too.

That can be had at a dealer or parts supplier.

Make sure that the secondary is closing all the way. The belt should be even or 1/8" above the edge of the sheave.

The belt is slightly below the edge of the sheave, about an 1/8". But the belt is slipping on up at the primary clutch. I'm gonna go pick up the exahust gasket one night this week. The side with the exhaust leak is running leaner according to the plug color, but do you think that would cause it to die abruptly after driving it for a bit?
