1990 Prowler 440

Im looking at a 1990 Arctic Cat Prowler 440 and would like to know so mods that would get this thing to keep up with other sleds better. Its got new rings, hyfax, ski skins, main drive bearings, brakes, and cables. I had seen some where on the internet that you could swap 98+ zr rear suspension on to them, is this true? As for mods ive already thought of a comet 108-exp clutch and new track with 1.50 inch lugs. I have also been thinking about polishing the tunnel and a pipe if I can find one. Are there any mods that can be done to the front suspension? Any other home mods would be great....I am aware there isnt much to do for these sleds.

A full 98 (front and rear) suspension swap would be a huge difference in the ride and handling.
1.25 lug track would be the most that I would put on that light of a sled, the 440 is only about 48hp to begin with.

There are several things that can be done! Porting will improve the out put, pipe work too! Plastic skis as well as the suspension upgrade will help alot! I would even go so far as to stay with only a 1" lug track!

So the 98 ZR swap i heard about can be done front and rear with minimal modification? If so thats nice because locally there is now a complete ZR600 rear suspension system. What if I got the suspension off a ZR900....did they have more travel? And one inch lug max should still be a great improvement over a worn out one. As I will be riding in deeper power and would like to get through it easier. Would polishing my tunnel help though? to keep snow from clumping and stuff. I found a pipe online and the comet clutch will be about it for me as far as performance and speed not too much to do and not quite worth it.

Yes, the Zr suspension has more travel than the Z chassis that is the 90 prowler.

97-01 are the same (except snopro) and 01-03 same! There are several different spring options, and the snopros had different shocks!

The rear can be added to any just by mesureing! The front will take a bit more work! Mesure the width of the A arms. A narrower A arm can fit with spacers or washers!
