01 M/Cat Spindle Change --> 03 Style

Has anybody got info about swapping the front spindles on my 01 M/Cat 600 for a set from the 03 M/Cats. The new spindles are narrower at the ski saddle & would allow me to narrow the ski stance (like on the 03's). My 01 is an LE model so it had the 41 inch (I believe) stance from new. This sled is somewhat of a pig to pull over in the deep snow. I installed an 03 M/Cat high handlebar kit & it helped but not enough yet. I figure with the adjustable spindle design it would make it tolerable. One of the dealers in town here insists that it can't be done without changing out the A-arms as well but that is cost prohibitive. I've taken all the crital measurements & I can't see why it won't work because the measurements are the same & the arms mount the same way. I just don't want to be stuck with a set of spindles I can't use if I'm overlooking something. Any help would be appreciated.
