95 Powder Special, Spark only with throttle....no spark when throttle released

1995 Powder Special 580 EXT carb. No spark without throttle.

What is up with that? Is that the TPS? I have just changed drive bearings on lower drive. So I had the skid, track, secondary and chaincase apart/removed. I also welded a new motor mount on at the front (old one broke...previous owner).Just got it all back together tried to fire it and no go without throttle....then it fires right up. It will not stay running by itself as it loses spark everytime I let off the throttle.

Thanks again for the replies.

There are magnetic switches on the carbs that are out of adjustment. You can try to adjust the cables until the problem goes away or you can make some jumper wires and unplug the switches and put the jumpers on the connector. If you do though make sure to always check the throttle to make sure its not stuck.

That is what is was....sorta. I had that carb off and when i put it back together I must have screwed up. I jumpered the magnetic switches. I got it to start but then it would race the rpms upward. I found that the cables were sticking.... took the top off of the carb i had just put back on. it looked OK, put it back together and now runs fine, I never checked but I bet that switch is fine to rehook up. I noticed as soon as i put the carb back together that the cables were moving freely again. The carb barrell was just hanging up because i obviously had it misaligned or something.

Thanks so much. That would have took me a while to find.

Leave them unhooked if you want. One of the most rediculous things ever put on a sled.
