Clutch problem (primary)
Hello all! Im new to the forum. Fairly new to a new beast i've come across. I've got a 99 ZRT 800 Frame with an 1000 Tcat set up in it. What type of clutch would i have?.... I blew a belt in a field, then when i put my spare on to get home..it was to tight.. the primary isn't fully dis-engaging. I played with it for hours. And cant seem to get it to go back to its normal position. Looks like it spun in or something? No idea! not good with clutches. Also. What type of clutch would be on there... the bolt that holds it on is inside a bit. and it has about 8 or 9 im guessing Hex screws holding the face on (holding the spring) ... any info would help greatly!! thanks so much!
James

A picture would be more help, but I'm guessing that a piece of the belt cord is still stuck in the clutch and has jammed it so that it will not quite return to full open at idle.

Then it is possible that the belt that you have for a spare is the wrong size.

Well actually the belt will not fit between the clutch and ride on the shaft like it usually does. the clutch is not fully disingaged as i can move the weights with my finger. (i have a new arctic cat belt) What happends is when i put it on the clutch is already engaged and stalls the motor (obveously) ...

It's possible that it did spin the spider and changed the sheave spacing. It will have to be removed to check it.

Cat clutches Nd Comet use the same puller, there are three different lengths.
Puller tool, Part # 216097A

I just wanted to know as i think im just going to get a new one. Instead of trying to take apart the clutch to rebuild it... looks pretty beat.

It is likly a 108, Take the cover off very carefully! If it is a 108 it will say so in a casting! If is a cat 6 tower or a 9 tower there should be a part number. Send us a pic of the cover and the clutch itself! For now what you can do is take the recoil off (4 bolts no biggie except the bottom one) and put a big screw driver or pinch bar threw the cage. then take a bigger crow bar or something and carefull put it threw the arms of the clutch (not were the spider travels) and turn the clutch back wards! If the spider came loose you can retighten it! But it wont stay very long! But atleast you can do this, then take cover off (and spring) the reloosen and add loctight and put jus the cover back on and re tighten! Then there is a jam nut to tighten! Then your all set! Good luck most of the time you can't even get them things loose on the bench with heat and Big tools!!
