00 Powder Special 700-Bypassing the TSS

I finally have my Powder Special 700 carbed running good, but when you let off the throttle a little, it stumbles as though someone has turned it off and back on. From research here, it looks as though it might be the TSS. How do I go about bypassing it? There is a wire connector going into the carbs, is there a connector at the handle bars also?

Thanks

on my zr, i had to remove the handlebar pad, find the 3 wires for the kill switch, unplug the connection, and cut and wirecap the middle wire. this way you still retain use of the kill switch.

ok, found the wires going to the kill switch. I unplugged the three wire harness and the sled still runs. I'll just have to use the key to turn it on/off. Is there any problem in doing it this way? I won't find out until this weekend and I ride it to see if this helped out.

Thanks

id just clip the wire anyway, it doesnt hurt a thing, then wirecap it so nothing can make contact/short. i wouldnt want anything comming in contact with the wires...

I've run my ZR with it unplugged, no problem. It's nice to have a kill switch though.

I have mine unplugged. I'd like to have a kill switch, but with the little man sitting in front of me, it's best to have it deactivated...going 40mph and seeing a little hand reach up and hit the "cool looking red button" makes for icicles in the pants...

What were your symptoms before you unplugged it?

My symptoms? i have a story to go with mine. but going through forums postings, i came to a conclusion to do it on both of my sleds.

My wife and i were out riding with our kids one night at about 8pm. we stopped at a trail crossing that happens to be in the middle of a cornfield, no street light, pitch black. you get the picture.

well, we all stopped to go over if we wanted to head home because it was getting late, or keep riding. once we decided what way we were going, I took the lead. about 1/4 mile down the trail i look back...and it's pitch black. no sled headlight to be seen. I turn around and head back to where we last stopped. there sits my wife and 3 year old with a flashlight in BFE. I asked her what happened and she said the sled "just quit" I checked over everything...gas, plugs, pinched gas line...everything was fine. but it wouldn't fire.

I remembered the TSS postings and with the family on the trial in the pitch black, took apart the handle padding and found the wire (by memory) and unplugged it. I knew i had gotten saddle bags for a reason, which was good seeing my electrical tape was there. I taped up the ends, put the padding back on and it started right up.

a side story...i wasn't sure if that was the problem or not, so i told my wife to get on and take off for home, and that I'd follow her. well, she did just that...along with my gloves that i had taken off and put in her foot well...needless to say, the tops of my hands were literally frozen while the palms were toasty on the grips...I've since added a extra pair of gloves to my saddle bags...

anyways...when i look back, the sled cut out only when it was stopped of almost at idle. never when riding at 30mph. It died a few times before, but only in my garage while i was working on a separate carb issue.

Since that day, I unplugged my TSS also and both sleds have run fine over the past 200 miles.
