Help
I have a '79 Jag 3000 f/c and an '81 Jag 4000 f/c. No spark on the 3000. How do I tell if it's the cdi, coil, or stator? I have checked all connections. The 4000 had spark, but it wouldn't start, so I pulled the coil off and put it on the 3000. Still no spark, so I put the coil back on the 4000 and now , no spark on it. I'm so confused!!

I also put in new plugs and by-passed the kill switch.

Unplug the wiring harness at the engine and connect the black/brown wires. If it gets spark, then there is a problem with the sled's wiring. If still no spark, CDI, ciol or stator is at fault. I'd say CDI was bad.

ok, I'll do that.
What do the switches in the throttle actually do? What activates what? First, the smaller one that gets pushed in when the throttle is let go and the second, lets out when the throttle is pulled. I think! Will trying to start it with the throttle open have any effect?

It could because there is a switch under the throtle lever and another at the carb slide! Bypass all this at the 4 way and give her a try!

I have the butterfly carb. The connector coming out of the throttle is only a 2 wire, which I now have jumped.

Still having problems withJags
ok, I finally got the stator pulled. Attached are the pics. Can you tell anything by the pics. Looks to me like the rotor could use a good cleaning. Is it bad enough to stop me from getting spark? Besides the cleaning, how can I check it to see if it's good? How can I check the cdi and coil to see if they're good?

Not much to be told by looking at it, but it probably wouldn't hurt to clean up the corrosion from the magnets and the stator with some fine grit sandpaper.

ok, I cleaned up the stator. I did an ohm check on it. I got about 145 on the red and the white wires. Does that tell me anything? Is there a way to check the cdi and coil. I'm trying to narrow things down.
thanx

It tells you something if you got the specs for it. Try you're ac to see if he's going to give em up!
