Shock weld broke....

Hey,
I was riding with friends on the trail when we stopped at a gas station and we noticed my right front shock was low, so we lifted the hood and found out that the weld on the bottom of the shock were the shock itself is connected to the cylinder where you slide the bolt through broke. I took the shock off and was now wondering if I HAVE to buy a new one of could just reweld it at a low temperature?.....
Thanks...

Take it to a welding shop, most welders can tell you if it will damage the shock or not. If it is on the end of the shaft then OK, if it is on the body then no!

i wouldnt chance it man, i had the same thing happen, and its a good idea to just replace it. you should be able to find them used for fairly cheap, i just swapped off my parts sled, but yeah.. i wouldnt try to weld it, it is on the body side, if you weld it, the shock wont work, you will jsut have a spring left. all the shock oil must have drained out when the weld ripped off of the body. I am a journeyman welder, and for legality reasons, i would never weld a shock, but thats just me..

Weld

Ic....well i don't think the floid drained out because the shock still can compress and decompress. If i were to weld it i would just grind some of the rust off the end of the nose(metal part were the thing was connected to) or would that cause the fluid inside to boil out?
