Guess what I get to do....

Rebuild the motor on my 95 Jag 440FC... I think/suspect the ring bearings are going out. If you turn the clutch by hand, you cannot hear the clutch side piston turn right away. The plug also on that side was black and loaded with carbon. Would that be rings also? This would be my first motor rebuild. Any suggestions? I heard it is common for the crank to fail in these motors, is that true? At least it is a simple motor.

Low compression would cause the carbon on the plug, but what is the ring bearing? Do you mean rod bearing? If it is indeed gone, you need to send the crank out to get rebuilt ($400 or so). Better off finding another crank.
