The stator is located behind the recoil and flywheel. You'll need a good flywheel puller to get it off. A harmonic balancer puller from an auto parts store works the best.

With the nut and washers remover from the flywheel, spray with PB Blaster, put the nut back on till it's flush. Put three hardened bolts into the flywheel about 1/4 to 5/16" no more! Tighten the puller as tight as you can then hit the end of it with a hammer!Tap and turn till it pops! When it goes it will scare the crap out of you! Make a mark so that you get the stator exactly back where it was!
