97 600 trip/carb'd v/s 1995/ 580/twin/carb'd

My budy jut bought a 1997 Powder extreme 600 triple/carb'd. i am wondering how much more performance he will have over my 95 Powder Special 580 twin/carb'd?

Obviously mod's/wear/tune aside. i am talking two factory sleds....hypothetically. He got a smokin' deal on it and I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. Quite jealous. Kinda hope it blows up......not really.

Are triple's more prone to motor failure? That is a serious question as HE was the one that told me that before I bought mine and I purposely avoided even looking at triple's. And no he did not know about this triple while I was looking.

Well you got an extra cylinder, piston, carb., more bearings in crank shaft... just more parts in general to break down. I have not had one personaly but cat tripples are dependable from what I hear. It all depends on how you treat them. Not shure about the proformance question thought.

That triple stock has atleast 120 hp! You're 580 stock is about 98! His is a bit heavier than yours! You will take him out of the hole but he will catch and pass you! Both machines are very dependable, you might want to check out your compression and replace the pistons if it gets low! The triple exhaust port has had tendencies to crack if abused!
