ext 580 efi Q

yeah so i was going to work on my truck outside today, but it looked like it was going to rain for a bit, so i went in the garage, and pulled the computer for my sled, to replace the battery. i figured while i was in there i should do the chaincase oil too, to my suprise all i found was one hole for filling, no check dipstick. (just got the sled) so i stuck a rubber tube down the hole and it came out almost dry maybe the lower 1/2 inch wet. so i went to advanced, got my battery, and a quart of 80w90 valvoline synthetic blend gear oil. put in 13 ounces etc so i should be good to go. but my q is why isnt there a dipstick for checking it? its got reverse and all that, so with the battery etc you cant get to the case unless you remove the ecu and battery...im just lost....

With the reverse case, there is not enough space for the dipstick.

yeah i see that but the thing it, once the battery and ecu are back in place, you have no way to check the fluid level throughout the season, and the only way to tell the level is to dip something or pop the case? thats bs to me anyways...bad design.

The reverse chain case holds 12oz. the only way to tell is to drain and refill! Got a leak fix it and refill!

My '96 ext has a dig stick in it but its all the way @ the bottom of the case, under the battery tray. I'l post a pic of my chaincase and you can see @ the bottom where it sais "check oil", thats where the dipstick is located.

I totaly agree with you on that. It was probly design for sleds that dont have a battery or efi. Then when the efi came out they just kept it instead of redesign.
